The EarthBiAs2015 summer school took place between 31st Aug and 4th Sept in Rhodes, Greece. It has been organised by the School of Sciences of the University of the Aegean. Interesting topics relevant to Waternomics such as Big Data analytics, environmental monitoring, and climate change came among the topics at EarthBiAS.
I have presented two lectures at the summer school, which were motivated in part by problems in Waternomics. The first lecture was about crowdsourcing for data quality, and it gave a background and detailed discussion about data quality issues and the process of data curation for dealing with that using mechanisms such as crowdsourcing. The other lecture was on tackling variety in Big Data Internet of Things applications. Issues such as semantic heterogeneity were tackled with detailed discussion on the problem of semantic representation and processing along with the use of geometrical statistical models of semantics to address semantic heterogeneity.
